Vision

To explore various ways in which Nature, inspired indigenous Knowledge in Africa and the evolution of such knowledge in ancient, historical and contemporary practices within Africa and the Diaspora.

Objectives

To explore tools (or media) that have facilitated these practices in Africa and beyond, and the evolution of these media in modern technology/inventions they have engendered, inspired and sustained.

Goal

To disseminate this knowledge through interactive learning opportunities, particularly to people of African descent in the Diaspora. why? As a constant source of inspiration. There was a concerted effort to erase the countless accomplishments and inventions of our ancestors in Africa and the Diaspora.

Our goal is to disseminate this knowledge through interactive learning opportunities that enable first-hand experiences of the above. Periodically, we feature select media and associated practices and incorporate mechanisms that enable a comprehension of the above within their cultural context.

We explore the evolution of Indigenous Knowledge inspired by nature and identify technologically-relevant tools (media) Africans invented to facilitate the transformation of this knowledge into cultural practices.

Through interactive learning platforms that enable a comprehension of these practices within their cultural context, we disseminate knowledge of how the ingenuity of Africans delivered pragmatic solutions to dire necessities: Inventions.

Technology

We foster innovation and inspire a myriad of future career explorations among youth of African descent, particularly careers that promote the Art of Science + Technology, in which several have demonstrated minimal participation.

Our Visionaries

Yemí "Àníké-Àgbò Alalade

FOUNDER

Yemí is the founder of Àníké; Director of Alafia-Yinbol K-12 School in Nigeria where she launched several cultural and learning programs; Consultant/Invention Education teacher at the Lemelson-MIT Program in Cambridge-Massachusetts where she explores culture as a precursor to the Design Process. Recently, her introduction of the Lemelson-MIT “Electronic Textiles” module to young students in Nigeria, enabled the designation — an affiliate of the MIT OpenCourseWare Mirror Site Program in Nigeria.

Folakemi Alalade

ALCHEMIST & CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Folakemi is Àníké’s Creative Director and the Director of the Language Lab. Her speciality is on Ancient Symbology and the alchemical process.
